The Tennis League 5, also known as TL5 was a tennis tournament held from 2019 to 2020 on YTPMania. It was the seventeenth tournament overall and the first of four to be hosted on that site.

It was hosted by mrdoognoog, VidTens443, nm41, dani_phantump, and Morshe, marking the official beginning of the post-YouChew era of tennis tournaments. It returned to many of the fundamental tenants of the Tennis League 4, now with the added gimmick of divisions rotating through different match types like the Tennis Season, including Wildcard, Single Source, Multiplied Time, Noplug, and Standard/"Vanilla". For the first time since the Doubles Cup 1, votes were collected entirely by public poll, but with no judge votes used at all. It was eventually won by Razerek[1], making him the second ever person to win a tennis tournament twice, and the first to win two tournaments in a row.

The tournament captured the tennis community in a complete system reset, with nearly all the old community having since scattered or retired from tennis. Initially, when tennis operations had fully relocated to YTPMania following YouChew's closure, a new tournament was teased by the tennis staff of the time but nothing ever came to fruition, and after a year's time many members would post statements of retirement instead, including Biodegradable, CorruptionSound, MycroProcessor and Metroid998. The Tennis League 5 was thusly the first conjured by a completely new generation of players, with VidTens443 stating in the introductory post for the event that "many years had passed" since a tournament took place (in fact, only two years had passed since the beginning of the Doubles Cup 3.)

Sentiment of the tournament was generally negative. While initial hype was very high as it had been some time since the previous tournament (the Doubles Cup 3 had ended just over a year before and the League format had not been attempted since 2014), criticism began to emerge as the tournament continued to go on, something that had plagued the previous two tournaments as well. Replacements became abundant to the point where later sets had to be modified to account for the reduced amount of players. Staff at the time had agreed to never try the tournament again, however in recent years thoughts about returning the format with significant changes has been proposed. The Bronze Tennis League came directly at the result of host BortLoco's discontent with the tournament, played in a smaller scale to successful completion.

It was the first tennis competition to feature CRJ1_, Milk, system128, nm41, mrdoognoog, Wodienfor, Zaosin, Gabiwoda, BENT_DATA, BortLoco, AngryLuigi23 and ZeroLittleWords, the final tennis competition to feature mafar_, Sploltoen, QuadrantThree, MAZZ0Murder, CamHead, and aw8qn, and the only tournament to feature Kinoszoros, Extrenor, cynd05, TyrannosAsh420, poprox101, afterbirth!, SuperPoopBros, raw, KaiPixelLeap7800 and Ian O'Keefe.

Layout

TL5 was laid out very similar to TL4, with a twist. combining the league format as well as the gameweek variations seem in the Tennis Season, each player would go through five different types of matches. These were:

While interesting on paper, many of these special tennis types resulted in unfair advantages for players depending on if they made even or odd rounds (in particular, MTT and Wildcard).

Final Match

Despite winning every match in their division, dani_phantump was disqualified from participating in the final match due to controversy surrounding NewChew at the time. Their spot was taken by nm41 who was later replaced by VidTens443 after dropping out as well.

Post-Tournament

Once the tournament had completed, an "outro" for the match was created by mrdoognoog which was created in the style as a similar outro created by TheFXexpert for their final round of the Tennis League 4.
