Wildcard Tennis
(Not related to BCC Wild Cards.)
Wildcard Tennis is a special type of tennis that adds "wildcards" - special restrictions - to each round. Generally, these wildcards would be different per round, chosen by the player who just finished to give to their opponent alongside their completed work. It was originally invented by Crash2991 on January 31, 2008[1], and gradually refined into the form we currently understand it over the course of that year. This culminated in the first wildcard game ever played, RabbitSnore vs. Crash2991 in late 2008.
These restrictions could go from simple (like an entirely monochrome video) to extreme (like forcing you to only use one effect)! Some wildcard matches will also stack restrictions on top of each other, making it harder and harder to make your next video. You have to be careful what you recommend!
Common Wildcards
There are endless restrictions you can place on a video. But here's a few simple, common ones:
- Your video must be monochrome (black and white)
- No external editors or plugins (Noplug)
- You must use a certain resolution or frame rate (often very low)
- The audio and video must be de-synchronized in some way
- The previous round must be rendered in a certain way before work can be done (for example, reversed)
- You can only use certain sources, or no sources at all
- You only have a certain amount of time to make the round (Panic Tennis)
You can find other wildcard restrictions by looking at previous wildcard matches, as well as the Choose Your Fates Collabs which were a similar concept but in YTP form.
Notable Matches
- RabbitSnore vs. Crash2991(2008), the first match to be played under this variant
- Moogle vs. RabbitSnore(2009), a Tennis Season match of the Wildcard variant where both players activated the "Forever Wild" ability, meaning each round had three conditions applied to it.
- JazzDanceForChildren + TangerineImpz vs. RAKninja + Crash2991 (2009), a Tennis Season Doubles match given Wildcard rules by the latter two players.
