Doubles Cup 1

The Doubles Cup 1 or DC1 was a Youtube Poop Tennis Tournament organized and hosted by RAKninja that started in November 2008 and continued until June 2009. It was the fifth tournament overall and the first to be concretely hosted by one or more members of the tennis staff, a recurring staple from then on. The first tournament in the Doubles format, it served to be significant in helping to cement the popularity of doubles tennis as a viable match type entirely. The gameplay model that was created and used in this competition would later be used again for the Doubles Cup 2 and the Doubles Cup 4. Unlike in other tournaments past and present, public votes were collected entirely by public thread poll, a system that would not be used again until the Tennis Cup 5. The winners were the duo of Aesaun and AjaxCubed.

This was the first tennis competition to feature many significant players, including TheChutley, trepmaws, MycroProcessor, Moogle, Quax, JazzDanceForChildren, TangerineImpz/Imperade, XBR4D3NX, McMANGOS, AjaxCubed, KlausTheWizard, JackTron7000, TheSfarioBros, Futures Passed and SergeantBacon. It was the last tennis competition to feature Nuthead and Terrorist, and the only tennis competition to feature UberNooberPooper, theflashmaker9985, MrGenericMan and Grabboarm.

While this tournament established the definitive tournament method of play for doubles matches, where the 4 players each made a round as if in a four way and then collaborated for the last two rounds, it was originally not set in stone as to which players had to make which round on either side in the initial 4 round rotation. Rather, in this tournament, pairs would decide which between them would make which round for their side, whether for availability or strategic purposes. Going forward, a more established volleying order would be used in accordance to the listed line up, with these kinds of player switches only happening in cases of availability complications.

A potential team of theHappyFungus + ADHDYoshi also almost formed but were unable to commit. Erarg and XBR4D3NX moved on to Set 2 without any opposition.
