Tennis League 5

The Tennis League 5, also known as TL5 was a tennis tournament held from 2019 to 2020 on YTPMania. It was the seventeenth tournament overall and the first of four to be hosted on that site.

It was hosted by the newly appointed mrdoognoog and VidTens443, not-yet-appointed nm41 and dani_phantump, and Morshe, marking the official beginning of the post-YouChew era of tennis tournaments. It returned to many of the fundamental tenants of the Tennis League 4, now with the added gimmick of divisions rotating through different match types like the Tennis Season, including Wildcard, Single Source, Multiplied Time, Noplug, and Standard/"Vanilla". It was eventually won by Razerek, making him the second ever person to win a tennis tournament twice, and the first to win two tournaments in a row.

The tournament captured the tennis community in a complete system reset, with nearly all the old community having since scattered or retired from tennis. It was the first tennis competition to feature CRJ1, Milk, system128, nm41, mrdoognoog, Wodienfor, Insert Name Here, Gabiwoda, BENT_DATA, BortLoco, AngryLuigi23 and ZeroLittleWords, the final tennis competition to feature Sploltoen, BoomDaCorgi1337, MAZZ0Murder, CamHead, and aw8qn, and the only tournament to feature Kinoszoros, Extrenor, cynd05, TyrannosAsh420, poprox101, afterbirth!, SuperPoopBros, raw, KaiPixelLeap7800 and Ian O'Keefe.

History

Tennis was in a very troubled time after the shutdown of YouChew. Many of the staff were completely gone, and it was up to the younger crowd to pick up the pieces. With no staff, who would run tournaments?

Due to the general immaturity of many of the staff in hosting tournaments, TL5 was a growing pain in rebuilding that side of the community. It was largely agreed upon that the League format no longer worked for the modern meta and likely would never happen again, unless the scale was brought down significantly or other major changes were made to ease the load.

Layout

TL5 was laid out very similar to TL4, with a twist. combining the league format as well as the gameweek variations seem in the Tennis Season, each player would go through five different types of matches. These were:

• A regular, "vanilla" match
• Multiplied Time Tennis (starting at 16 seconds)
• NoPlug Tennis
• Single Source Tennis - a source, usually a TV show or movie, was decided on, which was the only available option for the whole match.
• Wildcard Tennis

While interesting on paper, many of these special tennis types resulted in unfair advantages for players depending on if they made even or odd rounds (in particular, MTT and Wildcard).

Due to mistakes in matchmaking, set 5 had to be split up to avoid duplicate matches occurring. That alongside increasing dropouts made planning the final set a nightmare. But it was done.

Final Match

Despite winning every match in her division, dani_phantump was disqualified from participating in the final match due to being banned from the YTPMania forums for a year as a result of the "NewChew" fiasco.
