An X-Second Tennis is type of tennis match (usually a self-match or a chain) with rounds all the same length. Very commonly these matches have rounds with relatively short time spans, usually between half a second to five seconds. As a result, they have often been compared to or lumped in with multirender matches - however most common multirender matches will have multiple "rounds" made by the same person all in a row (compared to X-Second usually going one person each). The most common variant of these matches are one second round, or the titular 1 second tennis, often labeled by the year played.
Due to the quick turnaround of rounds, high player counts, and general rapid-paced output, these matches were very popular with both players and viewers in the 2010's. Recent critiques however, especially of shorter games, have been more mixed - citing a lack of general communication and originality.
History
MAZZ0Murder first conceived of the idea of a "1 second tennis" on September 30, 2008[citation needed], but a match of this variant would be first organized by superkoffee on August 17, 2010. It would be compiled as the match's "results" and later re-uploaded by YouWouldBeWelcome after superkoffee's channel termination.
superkoffee would go on to host many other X-second matches, exploring round limits of 1/4 and 1/5 of a second (all in 2011).
Notable Examples
Under One Second
superkoffee hosted four 1/5th second matches, as well as a single 1/4th second one:
