Breaking the Fourth Wall
The concept of Breaking the Fourth Wall is a concept that is seen in many different forms of media, where the hypothetical "fourth wall" between the reality of the art and the reality we live in is broken.
Usage
A fourth wall break can refer to many different things, but as long as you're 'breaking the boundaries' of what should be referenced in a scene, it counts.
Editor Escape
The most common 4th wall break in tennis is for the video to suddenly cut to the editor that the player is using to make said video.
- In your editor, get to the point where you want the break to occur. Then, either screen record or take a picture of what your editor window looks like.
- Most commonly at this point, you would zoom from the preview window to the whole editor. Then from there you can do basically whatever you want.
This is most commonly seen as a end-of-video gag or Cutoff Prevention. You also could go one step further and "jump" from one editor to another, zooming out from one then zooming into another on the desktop.
Self-Commentary
Simply talking about what's going on in the video, as simple as it may sound, is technically breaking the bounds of the video. Often this is seem to crack a joke (usually complaining about one's editor), and will last only for a frame or two.
