Alternate Persona Tennis

Alternate Persona Tennis are tennis related events (players, matches, etc.) that take place outside of the general sphere of a player's persona. This could be a "secret alt account", special events or projects, etc.

ARG-Style Tennis Projects

ARGs, or Alternate Reality Games are interactive stories that take place in an "alternate reality". Many of these games can take the form of a YouTube series, but often expand upon that; websites, forum posts, even real-world locations can be involved. As this is a medium that works with almost anything, certain Tennis projects have tried doing so as well.

gophrmann

"The record cold for Raleigh, North Carolina occurred on January 7th, 2018."

gophrmann/cobalt72 was a project by mrdoognoog from 2020 to 2022, riding on the wave of ARGs that had became popular during COVID. Initially starting as an anonymous alternate account for tennis dramatically different than what doog was known for, gophrmann quickly evolved into a much more than that, with videos taking on much darker themes that were connected by a storyline. Because of the storytelling nature of the channel, who got to play and how many could play was heavily restricted, much to the dismay of others.

cobalt72 was another alt account tied to the gophrmann story, claiming to be a "friend". This was also, initially, done to play regular "alternate tennis" because gophrmann now had their own special personality that couldn't be easily changed. The "two" had a match together, with all titles being heavily ciphered in Base64. The final round was also 17 minutes long, mostly of static and monochrome repetition of the previous round.

The story ended in 2022 when the character of gophrmann was "found dead" after an accident while making a round. This was so convincing that many people believed it to be true, leading to much controversy at the time. As a result of this mrdoognoog pulled the plug on the story early, hastily concluding things and revealing the whole thing had been made up. Almost all videos on both channels were privated as well, "out of respect for the diseased"; however, this was reversed on the 2nd anniversary of the end of the channel in 2024.

Clown My Frown

Occurring a short time after gophrmann had ended, Clown My Frown, an ARG project by JaJack, was started. It was very similar in nature and vibe to gophrmann, something that was quickly picked up by the rest of the community; this unfortunately made many not regard it as seriously as others.

Possible Alternate Personas

There have also been many cases of accounts popping up that released very few videos and vanished. However for these cases, the players show signs of sophistication not usually seen by brand new players, making their "newbie" status suspicious.
