BMATF vs. strong414bad was a Youtube Poop/video tennis match that took place on the "Vanilla" era YouChew forums between October 21 and December 27, 2007. The 39th tennis match ever played, conradslater had a direct hand in the conditions that started off the match. strong414bad created a thread offering to tennis a potential player without having a a serve ready, and BMATF took it up, suggesting that strong414bad make a new video for a serve.[1] Conrad then suggested: "since your both listed [in the youtubepoop.com directory] I suggest the person who has made the least videos [YTP]s chooses a video made by the person who has made the most, thereby paying tribute to that person's hard work".[2] He also was in favor of the pairing of these two players, anticipating "this is could well be classic match".[3] With strong414bad agreeing to this suggestion, this switched up the initial volleying order as BMATF had made the most videos by far between the two of them, and a Round 2 was posted on October 25 that used BMATF's recently uploaded solo video "Robotnik and the Snakes"(2007) as the serve for the match.[4] With the serve being around 2 minutes long, the following five rounds are much shorter, averaging around 30-40 seconds each. Sources used include The Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog, "Ventrilo Harassment" - ORIGINAL Arnold Schwarzenegger Edition, Fritz The Cat(1972)(all three of which were staples throughout BMATF's work in this era), Mega Man X4(PS1, 1997), The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross, Donkey Kong 64(N64, 1999), Hatris(NES, 1990), Cool Runnings(1993), and Dimitri's "Greasy Sweet" music video; the 100% bonus reward from the game Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves"(PS2, 2005).
It was the fourth match played by BMATF, as well as his third "completed" game to go for every round intended, and the second match played by strong414bad. strong414bad's rounds are the earliest known example of a performance in a tennis match that utilized Windows Movie Maker augmented with custom effects, which include for this match PiP, split-screen and color distortion effects. These eventually allow for an intense, "climactic" finish for the match's final round that both display strong414bad's early mastery of the software and the editing potential of Windows Movie Maker in tennis entirely. He later reflected regarding his final round:
"It was pretty early in the Tennis days- I think this was my second Tennis overall, and I got started right as it was starting- but you couldn't tell it from the videos it turned out. This one was made a couple months after Round 5- I had initially forgot about the Tennis, and then found that nothing I made could justify the wait- but the round that ensued is just great. I have very few videos that I think could actually give people seizures, but this is one of 'em."[5]
The opening segment of most rounds consists of quick cuts between the previous round and a newly added source, accumulating in volume from the second to final response, providing for a match with a very simple beginning and a very complex end. In January 2009, BMATF regarded his performance in the match as "WEAK"[6] in comparison, though strong414bad considered BMATF's Round 3, "The Snakes The Way", to be one of his favorite tennis responses: "...he took my previous round and didn't edit it, but just added a clip of Robotnik saying WAY over most of the round. I giggled."[7][8] He would later regard BMATF as "a mad genius" who "tennised with the skill of a natural champion" regarding this match.[9]
BMATF lost his original "BigMarioAndTailsFan" account to termination on February 27, 2008[10], causing the lost of all of his old tennis material for his matches played up to this point, including for this match; for many years his only surviving matches were his games with ELPsteel and his three-way with UncleChuckTH and Wikiwow. strong414bad closed his account in January 2010, but his videos were soon after all reuploaded by his friend hom906sar on the archive account dab414gnorts. Due to Round 6 taking two months to complete in an era where matches generally finished in a concentrated span of time, the thread for BMATF vs. strong414bad was moved to the Tennis: Failed section on the YouChew forums and subsequently lost to obscurity for many years; strong414bad would post Round 6 in the "Showroom" subforum of YouChew's YTP section to compensate for the thread no longer being accessible.[11] Additionally, when the dab414gnorts account was built, the playlist for his match with BMATF included reuploads for Round 2 and 4, but not for Round 6, which was still included in the channel's reuploads as an unintentionally isolated video. The match was eventually rediscovered, and BMATF's lost rounds were restored through the efforts of The Great Restoration. The match was first compiled into a single video on the YouWouldBeWelcome account (initially without Round 6 by accident, due to the misdirected organisation of strong414bad's YouTube archive) in March 2026.
