Notable Versions
This section goes over some of the more "notable" versions of Vegas released over the years. Depending on a user's workflow (i.e. if they want Wax integration, OFX support, etc.) they would want to choose particular versions over others.
As of August 1st 2025, The current version of Vegas is 22. Vegas 23 is expected to release in September 2025.
Sound Forge Vegas 1.0
This was the first version of Vegas (not including Betas). At this point, it was only an audio editor.
Sony Vegas 4.0
This was the first version of Vegas with 3D Source Alpha.
Sony Vegas 5.0
A staple version of the early days with it being the editor of choice of many modern players. While rarely seen today in modern workflows, 5.0 is a popular choice for "throwback matches" where older software is encouraged.

Sony Vegas 6.0
This was the last version of Vegas to (officially) support Wax.
This version, along with 5.0, coincided with the advent of Tennis, so many players' first version was this one during this time. It remains a staple editor with many players, especially the older community.
Sony Vegas 8.1
This was the first version to have 64-bit support.
Sony Vegas 9.0
This was the first version of Vegas to support MP4 files, the most commonly used modern file format.
Sony Vegas 10.0
This is the first version of Vegas to support OFX plugins. This is the first version of Vegas that basically supports all modern features to get started.
Sony Vegas 11.0
Vegas 11 Build 700 is the final version of Vegas to have a 32-bit option. Starting with builds 701 and beyond, all versions of Vegas are 64-bit only. [1]
VEGAS 14.0
This was the first version by MAGIX, who purchased the rights to make Vegas from Sony. It is often considered the best version of the program from a modern perspective [citation needed].
VEGAS 19.0
This version, along with 20.0, had a timebomb which made it unusable after May 1st, 2023. A patch was released shortly after the discovery.
VEGAS 21.0

Troubleshooting
Audio Effects breaking when moving from Vegas 19 to 21
If you upgraded from Vegas 19 to 21, you may notice that certain audio effects, namely Distortion and Vibrato, will cease to exist. This is caused by a faulty DLL and can be fixed by moving the V19 versions into the V21 folder. Specifically, "C:\Program Files (x86)\VEGAS\Shared Plug-Ins\Audio_x64".
